Happy birthday, Queen Camilla! The queen consort celebrates her 79th year of life today, July 17. To mark the occasion, her royal family members have shared loving tributes.
Buckingham Palace released a new portrait of the queen wearing a cerulean-blue dress and a sapphire butterfly brooch, smiling joyfully at the camera. The photo was taken by Chris Jackson, Getty Images’ royal photographer.
“Happy Birthday to The Queen!” the Instagram post featuring the image begins. It then notes the causes Camilla is keeping close to her heart on this day: “Her Majesty has marked her birthday with a renewed commitment to supporting children’s literacy, with the announcement that every Year 6 and P6 child across the UK will be gifted a special edition of the bestselling book Impossible Creatures by award-winning author Katherine Rundell, this Christmas. Led by the National Literacy Trust, of which The Queen is Patron, the programme celebrates the National Year of Reading 2026.”
Prince William and Princess Catherine shared the palace’s post on their own Instagram Story, writing above it: “Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very Happy Birthday! 🎂”

Camilla entered the British royal family on April 9, 2005, when she married King Charles III (then Prince Charles). The nuptials came after a decades-long love affair which began when they met in the 1970s.
Camilla officially became queen consort on September 8, 2022, when Queen Elizabeth II passed away. She was later officially crowned alongside Charles during their coronation at Westminster Abbey on May 6, 2023.
